Montgenevre
The Montgenevre ski resort is on the French/Italian border and has a relaxed attitude typical of Italian resorts but with slightly faster ski lifts! At 1850m there is generally good conditions with plenty of snow, and thanks to the tree cover bad weather rarely stops ski holiday makers from skiing and snowboarding here. The small, unpretentious village is very friendly and renowned for it's fun approach. A car is a real benefit as there are plenty of nearby ski areas to explore such as Serre Chevalier, La Grave, Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez- which can all be accessed with a Grande Galaxy ski lift pass.

From Montgenevre you can ski the Milky Way ski domain and its 400km of pistes. Experts will find steeps to rival any in France and endless untracked off-piste opportunities. Intermediates skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the long reds and blues and trips to Sestriere and back. Beginners can progress quickly from the sunny nursery area to the long blues and greens up at La Cretes and the Querelay. One of the most spectacular runs is the red from the Colleto Verde on the border - there are some stunning views. Whether you are looking to snowboard or ski, this ski resort will provide you enough to satisfy your apetite, but if that isnt enough you could always pop into Italy for pasta for lunch!

The atmosphere is more cheap and cheerful than stylish and sophisticated with plenty of good value pizzerias and good home cooked traditional French food. The few bars get lively with regular live music in Le Graal. The welcoming open fire at the Ca del Sol is a popular apres ski venue.

If you fancy some time off skiing there are snow-shoe trails and a sledging area. For the more adventurous try and ride on a snow-mobile! There is not much to distract non-skiers once they have exhausted the ice rink and cinema but the old fortified town of nearby Briancon makes for an interesting day out.
