Valmeinier

The Valmeinier ski domain is part of the Valloire skiing area. Set in the Maurienne Valley, the ski resort is situated between the Vanoise and Ecrins National Parks on the divide of the Northern and Southern Alps. Valmeinier covers two villages at two different altitudes: the traditional village of Valmeinier 1500 is at the foot of the slopes and is composed of several little hamlets whilst Valmeinier 1800 was developed in the late 80s but fits in with its unspoilt rural setting. The resort provides a perfect and snowsure base for skiers and snowboarders to explore large, varied ski areas, with a friendly village to return to at night.

Valmeinier -

The ski area is largely a recreational ski holiday destination but there is also some tough off-piste terrain. The ski area reaches up to over 2600m altitude and over 70% of the ski area is above 2000m. Take a look at our piste map. For beginner skiers and snowboarders there are some wide gentle runs just above the village and then ski lift access to longer green and blue runs. The ski area is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders due to the variation blue and red pistes, and for advanced skiers and snowboarders the most testing runs descend from the Crey du Quart and the Setaz, parallel to the Olympic World cup downhill run. Most of the ski slopes are north facing and there are some fantastic untracked off piste opportunities. When you need a break from the pistes there are three high-altitude restaurants and a snow park.

Valmeinier -

The village in the Valmeinier 1800 ski resort is very compact making it ideal for families and groups. There are a varied selection of cafes, bars, restaurants, plenty of shops and a nightclub. For entertainment there are two cinemas and a bowling alley.
Valmeinier 1500 village is smaller but there are still a couple of bar-restaurants, a pub and another cinema. For further activities it is not far to the neighbouring village of Valloire.

If you need a break to skiing in Valmeinier then there are plenty of activities to get involved in including snow shoes walks, paragliding, ice skating, dog sleds, luge runs, night skiing and torch-lit parades.
