Sölden is the largest ski resort in the Ötztal Arena. The resort is high and snow-sure, and there are two glaciers so you can ski in Sölden even during the summer!
The tree-lined valley is beautiful with Tyrolean buildings however the village itself is bounded by a busy main road and has a lot of traffic even through the centre.
Sölden - Ski
The ski station is situated at 1350m and the domain reaches 3340m so there is nearly 2000m of vertical drop. The Ötzal Arena ski domain is also known as the BIG 3 thanks to its 3 peaks over 3000m - Gaislachkogl at 3058m, Tiefenbachkogl 3309m and Schwarze Schneid 3370m. For advanced skiers there is a daring route 50km long. For those who like to get off the piste why not hit the Boarder cross, Fun park or Half pipe? The resort is great for intermediates & experts, skiers & boarders.. although complete beginners are less catered for.
In December a new 8-person lift is opening which will protect you from the elements.
Sölden - Town
In Sölden there are over 20 mountain restaurants and chalets; from little wooden chalets with guitar-playing guests to more luxurious restaurants. The town itself has a Tyrolean charm and the local bars have a fantastic atmosphere. The resort became very popular because of its aprés-ski scene and it can get quite rowdy in the evenings. Being the largest resort in the area it also naturally has the most shops, restaurants and ski schools.There is also a bowling alley and cinema.
Activities
If you want to take a break from the skiing then there are plenty of other options from tobogganing to swimming pools and various sporting & leisure facilities. For those who want to relax and be pampered there are well-being centres and spa treatments! If you want to get out of Sölden completely why not take one of the free buses towards Obergurgl and visit the neighbouring villages.
